Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need health insurance?

Direct primary care covers your primary care needs. It does not replace insurance for hospitalizations, surgeries, emergency care, or major medical events. Many members choose to pair their membership with a high-deductible or catastrophic insurance plan for broader coverage and peace of mind.

How does a telehealth-first practice work?

Most care can be handled safely and effectively through secure messaging or video visits. This allows for quicker access, fewer missed workdays, and unhurried conversations. When a condition requires an in-person evaluation, we will schedule an in-home visit if medically appropriate.

What about urgent care, emergency care, surgeries, or hospitalizations?

Your membership covers primary care services only. Emergency rooms, hospital stays, imaging, and surgeries are handled separately. Many members choose to pair their membership with insurance for unexpected or catastrophic events. We help coordinate care when needed.

Will you take a full health history when I join?

Yes. Every new member begins with a comprehensive intake and a dedicated establish-care visit. We review medical history, medications, goals, and any ongoing concerns. The goal is to build a long-term relationship—not just treat isolated problems.

How do you check blood pressure or examine something like an ear infection?

Many routine concerns can be evaluated through guided telehealth visits using home equipment such as blood pressure cuffs or digital thermometers. If an in-person exam is necessary to safely assess a condition, an in-home visit may be scheduled. If urgent or emergency care is needed, we will guide you appropriately.

How quickly will I receive a response?

Messages are typically reviewed and responded to during business hours.Urgent or emergency concerns should always be directed to 911 or the nearest emergency department.

What do prescriptions cost?

Prescriptions are not included in the membership fee, but many common medications are available at low cash prices. We prioritize cost-effective options and can often access wholesale pricing through partner pharmacies.

How do specialist referrals work?

If you need a specialist, we coordinate your referral and share your medical information directly. You are not limited to insurance networks. We can help identify high-quality specialists and transparent pricing options when available.

Can I pay per visit instead of joining the membership?

Young Health & Wellness operates on a membership model rather than per-visit billing. This allows for unhurried visits, direct messaging access, and a focus on ongoing care rather than transactional appointments. For those seeking occasional one-time visits only, this model may not be the best fit.

When are in-home visits available?

In-home visits are scheduled when medically appropriate and within our service area. The practice is telehealth-first, which allows for faster access and greater flexibility. In-person care is reserved for situations where it truly adds value to your care.
